The Story that did not want to be Read

(page 7)

No matter what the story tried, the readers kept reading, because that is what readers do. And that made the story think, "If readers are supposed to read, maybe stories are supposed to be read. Rutabagas that look like Winston Churchill? A tired, hungry dentist holding one foot in the air while balancing a pillow on his head? How foolish I've been! It's not so bad being a story. I've even learned to enjoy being read. What a wonderful feeling to share myself with curious readers!"

So the story lived happily ever after, and all the readers closed the book and went straight to bed.
