But the story grew tired of making so much noise, so it was relieved when the readers turned the page.

"I need a break," said the story. "I used up my voice on the last page, so now I can only make the quietest sounds. Maybe the readers will grow tired of trying to hear me, and finally close the book.

"I can only whisper.

"I can only sigh.

"I can only huh and hmm and oh my.

"I'm a silent night.

"I'm a quiet mouse.

"I'm the calmest empty house.

"I can only psst.

"I can only ssh.

"I can only stretch and yawn and hush.

"I'm underground.

"I'm in the air.

"I'm the kind of sound that isn't there."
